How to use the 1 hour timer

An hour is the unit of the deep work block, the parking meter, the slow oven, and the meeting you promised would not overrun. It is also long enough that most people stop watching the clock entirely — which is exactly when a timer earns its keep. This one counts down in the tab title, so a glance at the tab bar tells you where you are without switching back. Because it works from a fixed end time rather than counting ticks, an hour spent in a background tab is still exactly an hour.

FAQ

Will an hour in a background tab still be accurate?

Yes. Browsers throttle timers in background tabs to as little as once a minute, which is why a timer that adds up ticks drifts badly. This one compares against a fixed end time, so throttling changes nothing.

What happens if I close the tab?

The timer stops — there is no server involved and nothing is stored. If you need to close the tab, note the finish time before you do.

Can I set more than an hour?

Yes, up to twenty-four hours using the custom fields. The two-hour quick-set button is there for the common case.

Does my computer stay awake for the whole hour?

The screen does, where the browser supports Wake Lock. System-level sleep settings can still override that, so for very long timers it is worth checking your power settings.
