Pomodoro timer
Twenty-five minutes of work, five off, and it handles the switching.
Completed rounds
A long break arrives after every fourth round.
How to use the Pomodoro timer
The Pomodoro technique is deliberately rigid: twenty-five minutes of single-task work, five minutes away from it, and a longer break after every fourth round. The rigidity is the point — the decision about when to stop is made in advance, so you are not negotiating with yourself at minute nineteen. What most people get wrong is doing it with a plain countdown, which means restarting manually at every switch and quietly skipping the breaks. This timer moves between work and break on its own and counts the rounds, so the only thing left for you to do is the work.
- 1Pick one task, then press Start — the first twenty-five minute block begins.
- 2Work on only that task. When the chime sounds, the break starts automatically.
- 3Actually take the break: stand up, look away from the screen, leave the desk.
- 4After four completed rounds the timer gives you a fifteen minute long break.
FAQ
Why twenty-five minutes?
It is short enough that starting feels easy and long enough to get past the initial resistance on most tasks. The exact number matters far less than having a fixed one decided before you begin.
Should I skip the break if I am in flow?
The technique says no, and the reasoning is that flow you protect for one afternoon costs you the evening. That said, it is your method — the Skip button is there. Just notice whether skipping becomes the default.
What counts as a completed round?
A full twenty-five minute work block. The four markers below the timer fill as you complete them, and the fourth triggers the long break.
Does it keep going if I switch tabs?
Yes, and it switches phases in the background too. The tab title shows the remaining time and whether you are in a work block or a break, so you can check without switching back.
