A mouse rarely fails all at once. One button goes quiet, or the side buttons stop responding, and because you only use them occasionally it can take weeks to notice. This test listens to every button your browser can see — left, middle, right and the two side buttons — plus both scroll directions and raw cursor position. A button lights up the moment it is pressed and stays marked once it has registered at least once, so you can work through them one at a time and see exactly what is left. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is installed.
- 1Move the cursor into the test area — the coordinates in the corner confirm movement is being tracked.
- 2Press each button in turn: left, middle (the wheel itself), right, then the two side buttons.
- 3Scroll the wheel up and down a few notches.
- 4Any button still showing "untested" is not reaching the browser.
FAQ
Why does the right-click menu not appear?
The test blocks it on purpose. If the browser context menu opened, it would cover the page and you could never see whether the right button registered.
My side buttons do nothing here but work elsewhere.
Some mice send side buttons as keyboard shortcuts rather than mouse buttons, configured in the manufacturer software. In that case the browser never sees them as buttons 3 and 4, which is normal and not a fault.
A button registers here but fails in games.
That points to software rather than hardware — a driver profile, a remapping tool, or the game itself. The hardware is sending the signal, or this page could not show it.
Does this work with a trackpad?
Partly. Left and right register, and two-finger scrolling is detected, but a trackpad has no middle or side buttons to report.
