Check your camera, mic and speakers

Three checks, one answer: are you ready to join?

Your browser will ask for permission

Nothing is recorded or uploaded. Your camera and microphone are read on your own device, and nothing is kept when you leave.

How to check your setup before a call

This check walks through your camera, your microphone and your speakers in that order, and ends with a short summary you can copy into a chat or a support ticket. You confirm each step yourself rather than letting the page decide, because a browser can tell that a camera is present but not that you are badly backlit, that your headset is picking up a fan, or that the sound is coming out of the wrong speakers โ€” and those are the things that actually derail a call. Everything runs on your own device: no video, audio or result is uploaded, and every device is released the moment you move to the next step.

  1. 1Press Start the check and allow camera access when your browser asks.
  2. 2Confirm you can see yourself, then answer to move on to the microphone.
  3. 3Speak normally and confirm the level bar responds, then play the test tone.
  4. 4Read the summary, and copy it if you need to send it to someone.

FAQ

Is any of this recorded or uploaded?

No. The camera and microphone are read in your browser and nothing is stored or sent. Each device is switched off as soon as you finish that step, and closing the page ends access immediately.

Why does it ask me instead of deciding by itself?

A browser can tell that a working camera is attached, but not whether the picture is usable. Backlighting, a dirty lens, a fan in the background or headphones worn the wrong way round all pass an automatic check and still ruin a call. Your eyes and ears are the test; the page just runs the sequence.

Will this tell me if Zoom or Teams will work?

Largely, yes. If your devices work here, they are visible to the operating system and are not held by another app. Meeting apps then pick their own resolution and turn on their own noise processing, so the picture and sound there will not be identical โ€” but a device that fails here will fail there too.

It says another app is using my camera. What now?

Close any meeting app that is already running, including ones minimised to the system tray, then press try again. On Windows a camera can only be held by one application at a time, which is why a second test always shows a black picture.
