Stopwatch
Counts up, records laps, and tells you which one was quickest.
How to use the stopwatch
Most online stopwatches will happily give you a list of lap times and leave the arithmetic to you. That is the wrong way round: what you actually want to know is whether this lap was faster or slower than the last one, and doing that subtraction in your head while still running is not realistic. This one shows the gap between consecutive laps alongside the running total, and marks the fastest and slowest in the set. It runs entirely from the keyboard too — space to start and stop, L for a lap — because the whole point is that your hands are busy with something else.
- 1Press Start, or hit Space — timing begins immediately.
- 2Press Lap, or the L key, to record a split without stopping the clock.
- 3Each lap shows both its own duration and the total elapsed at that point.
- 4The fastest lap is marked green and the slowest amber once you have two or more.
FAQ
What is the difference between the two lap columns?
The first column is the lap itself — the time since the previous lap. The second is the running total from the start. Runners generally want the first; the second is what a race clock shows.
How accurate is it?
It reads the system clock rather than counting frames, so it stays accurate to within a few milliseconds even over long sessions. Your reaction time pressing the button will be the larger source of error.
Do my laps survive a page reload?
No. Nothing is stored — reloading clears everything. Copy anything you need before you leave the page.
Can I use it without a mouse?
Yes. Space starts and pauses, L records a lap, and R resets. Those three cover everything the buttons do.
