How to use the 10 minute timer
Ten minutes is the working unit for a surprising number of routines. Guided meditation apps default to it because it is long enough to settle and short enough that nobody negotiates with themselves about starting. HIIT rounds, revision blocks for students who cannot yet sit still for half an hour, and the "just ten minutes" rule for tasks you have been avoiding all land here too. The timer keeps counting in the tab title while you do something else, and rings at the end.
- 1Press Start; the countdown runs from ten minutes.
- 2Leave the tab or switch apps โ the remaining time stays in the tab title.
- 3When it reaches zero a chime plays and the title shows that time is up.
- 4Use the quick-set buttons if you want five, fifteen or twenty minutes instead.
FAQ
Is ten minutes long enough for meditation?
It is the most common starting length in guided practice, chosen because it is long enough for the mind to settle without being long enough to feel like a commitment. Longer sessions are not automatically better, especially at the beginning.
Can I use it for interval training?
For a single ten-minute block, yes. For repeating work and rest intervals a Pomodoro-style timer suits better, because it switches between phases on its own instead of needing a restart.
Does the timer drift if I leave the tab?
No. It calculates from a fixed end time rather than adding up ticks, so throttling in a background tab has no effect on accuracy.
How do I stop the sound?
The chime is short and stops by itself after about a second. Pressing Reset also clears the finished state straight away.
